Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
Search boxes on this site are run by outside providers. A name, case number, or date of birth typed into one of those tools goes to that provider, which processes the request and returns the result. We do not keep or log the terms you enter there.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If you email us, we hold on to the message so that we can write back. Those messages stay with our team. We do not pass them to anyone outside the organization unless the law requires it.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page on this site loads, our servers record a set of technical details about the visit:
- The IP address your device is using
- The browser you are on and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- Which pages you opened and how long you stayed
- The site that sent you here, when there is one
- A timestamp for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
This site uses cookies, which are small files stored on your device. They show us which pages get traffic and where visitors tend to leave, and analytics services help us summarize that activity. You can block cookies in your browser settings at any time. Some parts of the site may behave differently if you do.
What We Do With This Data
We use what we collect for a short list of purposes:
- Keeping the site online and loading quickly
- Passing your search request to the right partner service
- Learning which pages help readers and which need work
- Finding and fixing technical problems
- Showing advertising that may match your interests
No Warrant Data on File
This site does not host, compile, maintain, or sell databases of warrants or personal warrant records. We publish general guidance about where Brown County warrant records are held and how to check them through Brown County District Court, the Brown County Sheriff's Office, and the Minnesota court records system. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and nothing we collect about visitors is assembled into consumer reports or files about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
The search boxes here belong to outside companies. Whatever you type into one of them is handled under that partner's privacy policy rather than this one. Those partners decide how long they keep data and who they share it with, and we have no control over either. Read the partner's policy before you submit a search.
Links to Other Websites
We link out to court pages, sheriff's office sites, state court records, and other resources. Following one of those links takes you off this site, and the destination's privacy policy then applies. Read it before you share personal details there.
Some advertising partners track activity across websites in order to show targeted ads. That tracking happens on their systems, not ours, and we do not receive the underlying data.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. A limited set of parties may see some of it:
- Search partners that handle the queries you run here
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Advertising networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government offices when a valid legal order requires disclosure
How We Protect Your Data
We use standard security practices to protect the information we collect. No website connected to the internet can promise perfect safety, and we do not pretend otherwise. We take reasonable steps, and we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This site is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has sent us data, contact us and we will remove it promptly.
Your Data Rights
Minnesota law and federal law give consumers a measure of control over their personal data, and the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (Minn. Stat. ch. 13) governs records held by government offices such as the Brown County Sheriff's Office and Brown County District Court. That statute applies to those public offices, not to a private website like this one. For data we hold, you can:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong
- Ask us to delete your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of processing
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may change as the site changes. When it does, the revised version takes its place on this page with a new effective date. Check back if you want to follow how we handle visitor information.
